It’s time to start planning your wedding and it’s hard to figure out where to start. But one very important part of your wedding day can get overlooked as to how important it is. Yes, everyone wants a big party and celebration but the ceremony is where real love is exchanged between two people! Now let us help you with some tips for planning your wedding ceremony!

NO. 1

Choosing your officiant

When you start talking to your officiant about your ceremony, it’s important to get to know them and they get to know you! In doing so, the right officiant will be able to add a little bit of humor or personalization about the two of you into the ceremony. A few jokes will really lighten the mood and help both you and your partner relax a little.

NO. 2

Host an unplugged ceremony

Have you ever been to a ceremony where your view of the bride and groom was blocked because someone was trying to take a picture? Was someone moving to the center of the aisle for the perfect shot and it seems somewhat distracting? These can be moments that are distracting and worse yet, they could be distracting to the photographer resulting in a missed opportunity!

Remember you hired a photographer to take all of those awesome shots, not your loved ones! You want your friends and family to be able to enjoy and take it all in. There’s nothing wrong with having a sign at the entryway or asking your officiant to make an announcement that the ceremony will be “unplugged.”

NO. 3

Make it personal

Talk to your officiant about adding in something about the two of you to make the ceremony more personal. It could be a story about how the two of you met or if you have a funny first date story, your guests will be delighted to hear all about it! Another great tip is to talk about your past, present, and future together.

NO. 4

Ceremony Readings

A wonderful way to add a family member to your ceremony is by asking them to do a reading during your ceremony. Talk to them about your views on marriage and or your thoughts on your future. Pick out a reading that reflects that. But don’t feel that it has to be a ceremony reading! Make it your own. Pick out some movie quotes or a romantic poem to make it more personal. It’s your day, so make it about love and your marriage.

NO. 5

Vows

Vows are a very special part of the ceremony. This is a great way to make it really personal as well. Some people choose to pick pre‑written vows, but in our opinion, there is nothing more romantic than a couple that writes their own vows and puts it in their own words. If you are required by your church to recite prewritten vows, that’s ok! Still write your own vows and read them to each other at your first look (if you’re doing that) or before you go off for portraits after the ceremony.

NO. 6

Music

Ask yourself how important is the music aspect of your ceremony. There are 6 key moments that a couple chooses music for:

  • Parents’ and grandparents’ entrances
  • Groom’s entrance
  • Bridal party entrance
  • Bride’s entrance
  • Unity ceremony
  • Recessional

Now trust us, we know that there are many wonderful songs that can be chosen for these moments, but have you ever considered hiring live musicians? A live musician will create a very special and romantic feel to your ceremony.

NO. 7

The Exit

The exit is a very special moment in your ceremony. You are walking down the aisle as a couple for the first time and also getting ready to walk into (or drive to) your reception so how do you want to exit your ceremony? Do you want to walk on flower pedals or have your guests blow bubbles? Another fun exit is having some sparklers at the end of the aisle as you walk, or dance your way down the aisle as newlyweds.
